Dogwood Lane, unframed
Original pastel on sanded paper. Inspired by the Virginia State Arboretum, Dogwood Lane. I first painted this scene en plein air, and then came back to the studio to paint this piece. What a spectacular sight to see. The delicate, cool whites in the shadows emerge to shine warmer and so bright in the sunlight. The new spring grass was fresh and glorious.
